The NSF LEARN  community component is built on a variety of experiences together. All students in the program will attend a one-day orientation before classes begin to meet both their cohort and the mentors working with them throughout the year. During this orientation, they will participate in team building exercises and get a full program overview.

Throughout the semester, students will attend social, academic, and community events which are all pre-scheduled through the program staff. Many of these events are organized on-campus to build the NSF LEARN  Program into the greater FAU community.

LEARN™ students have volunteered at the Girls Leadership Institute & STEM Academy which is an event hosted annually by the Women's Foundation of Palm Beach County that empowers girls to be leaders within  the STEM field. Students also donated their time and efforts to help with the Science Olympiad, a statewide STEM competition, Martin Luther King Day of Service, and the FAU Community Garden
